Atelier Volvox - Saliera
Salt box with bowl-scoop
Long ago, alabaster was formed by the evaporation of salt water from receding seas. Today it lies embedded in gypsum deposits like heavy "eggs" at a depth of up to 300 meters. In the amber-coloured alabaster, the deposition process that took place millions of years ago can be seen as stripes. The transparent, snow-white variant with its matt, porous surface alludes to the salty origin of the mineral.
The salt box is made in a handcraft workshop in Tuscany, where alabaster has been mined and processed for centuries. The hand-caressing bowl-scoop made of maple wood is hand-turned in the nearby Southern Black Forest.
